I visited one of the Paleolithic painted caves in the Dordogne, quite by chance, en route to St. Emillion on a commission painting wine chateaux. The impact on me of these images caused an abrupt radical change in direction, exploring the power of these ancient animist images.
This led to many exhibitions on the 'Beasts' theme over the next 10 years. The idea to create the giant hill figure, the Folkestone White Horse, evolved from here.
